Human Immunodeficiency Virus Associated Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension: An uncommon etiology of Pulmonary Hypertension

چکیده
Pulmonary arterial hypertension has a deadly association with Human immunodeficiency virus infection. The incidence of pulmonary hypertension in Human immunodeficiency virus infection is higher than those in general population. This association significantly increases the mortality in these patients. We report a case of Human immunodeficiency virus infection who presented with cough, fever and severe shortness of breath. He was found to also have severe pulmonary arterial hypertension. He was managed with highly active anti-retroviral therapy and pulmonary vasodilators. The patient could not tolerate therapy and succumbed to his illnesses.

A case of severe pulmonary hypertension associated with common arterial trunk and VSD in a 9 years old child
Background: Common arterial trunk (CAT) is a rare congenital heart disease, and often leads to the early development of pulmonary hypertension and disability. Among the critical structural heart defects, the frequency of CAT is 3%, which reflects the severe hemodynamic disturbances. The natural course of the disease is characterized by a high mortality rate up to 88% during the first year of li...

The purpose of this investigation was to assess the effect of captopril on both systemic (P.a) and pulmonary arterial pressures (PPA) in patients with high-altitude pulmonary hypertension (HAPH). Seventeen patients (mean age 44±6.8 years) with HAPH and mild to moderate systemic arterial hypertension were included in the study. All patients underwent right heart catheterization with measurem...

Objective(s): The present study was aimed to investigate the influence of thoracic epidural blockade on hypoxia-induced pulmonary hypertension in rats. Materials and Methods: Forty eight Wistar rats were randomly divided into 4 equal groups, named normoxia hypoxia hypoxia/ ropivacaine and hypoxia/saline. Animals were placed in a hypoxia chamber and instrumented with epidural catheters at the t...
متن کاملThalassemia Associated Pulmonary Hypertension
Cardiac disease is the main cause of death in both forms of thalassemia; thalassemia major (TM) and thalassemia intermedia (TI). Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is one of the cardiopulmonary morbidities with high mortality that, if not treated, may trigger right-sided heart failure and premature death. PH is defined as a mean pulmonary artery pressure of ≥25 mmHg at rest or ≥30 mmHg during exercise...
متن کاملRecent Advances in Pulmonary Hypertension
1361 Pulmonary hypertension is broadly recognized as a group of disorders that share the common characteristic of an elevated mean pulmonary arterial pressure (≥25 mm Hg). Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH; Group 1) is a subset of the pulmonary hypertension disorders that is also characterized by pulmonary arterial remodeling, the formation of plexiform lesions, and poor clinical outcomes. W...
